When the Covid-19 pandemic started, people were terrified about work and losing their jobs. But the times have really changed, as a record, 4.4 million Americans left their jobs in September 2021.

The pandemic caused a lot of concerns regarding work. One of those concerns was whether employees were finding meaning in their work. If the pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that life is too short to waste several hours of several decades working a job you hate.

While its often said people don’t want to work, many people simply want to change careers for a more suitable profession. If you are wondering if you’re in that boat, here are five signs it’s time to change your job.

1. Work Is No Longer Thrilling

Your work should have at least some sense of fun to it. Is the vast majority of you’re life really meant to be nonstop stress? You should want to move up and grow in your company, but it’s impossible to want to succeed when you aren’t truly passionate or happy about your work.

2. You’re Not Learning or Growing

Moving up in an organization involves learning and taking on new skills. If that isn’t happening and things are stagnant, then that is a bad sign.

Sure, there are seasons where things seem slow. Or you may be distracted by outside matters that briefly hinder your career growth. But this cannot last for a prolonged period, and it’s a major issue if that’s what is going on.

3. You’re Boss Has Become Your Worst Enemy

Bad managers are bad for employees and companies. Companies lose $7.29 per day for each bad manager. That adds up quickly.

Bad managers cause damage through a mix of bullying and incompetence. By demeaning their employees, they take away a sense of purpose that hinders their success. If your boss is making you feel like you’re walking on eggshells, you should get ready to run as there’s very little chance of things improving.

4. You Dream Of Working Elsewhere

It’s easy to brush this one off by saying, “The grass is always greener on the other side.” But if you are spending several hours a day fantasizing about a better job or if you are always searching through the want ads, that’s a good sign it’s time for a job change. Your job is clearly losing its value, and you shouldn’t feel guilty for wanting a change.

5. Your Talents Are Not Being Put To Use

You know you have certain talents and you know you are gifted for a certain purpose. If those talents and gifts are going to no use, you may be wasting your time.

It’s unrealistic to expect to go right into your calling when you begin your career. But if you’re well into adulthood and your talents are going to no use, there’s a major issue taking place.

If you’re experiencing any of these issues, it’s time to make a change. Send your resume and skill information to recruitment agencies that can match you with a more fitting career. Don’t waste your life in a go-nowhere career that isn’t meant to work out.
